How to plan a safe and fun wedding in dhaka during the pandemic!
Pre-pandemic brides and grooms didn’t quite have so much to worry about as everyone now does, but planning a successful wedding by Bangladeshi standards while still maintaining COVID safety may seem like a tall order, but some brides and grooms have narrowed it down to a close list.
Nothing will ever ascertain absolute safety in the face of this debilitating virus, but there are measures you can take to restrict the transmission of COVID and still enjoy your wedding festivities to the fullest extent:
First, the number of guests you invite is key. Not everyone you’ll call will share an intimate relationship with you, and while it can be tough to cut people out, it can also be a blessing because people who will be in attendance will actually be the loved ones. Depending on the size of your venue, keeping the list to 100-300 people will keep transmission to a minimum. Set up zoom links for all the loved ones who will miss us either by choice or by necessity, and they can share in on the joy remotely.
Mandating masks. It can be near impossible to request a guest to wear a mask on the day of, but you can prepare them mentally by requesting them to do so in your invitation cards and set up subtle reminders on the table place settings, welcome sign, etc.
Prep, prep, prep. Sweeping the venue and wiping down surfaces before guests arrive and sanitizing after the decorating crew is done will do wonders to limit transmission at least by way of vendors and earlier parties in attendance. You’ll come into a clean venue to celebrate at
Distance: ask your event decorators to place all tables, serving stations, at least 3-6 feet apart (or following the latest CDC guidelines for larger gatherings)
Sanitization: include a sanitization booth at the entrance to subtly prompt everyone to sanitize prior to walking into your event Have servers walk around with sanitizers on a tray every 15-30 mins and advise family members to pick up the sanitizers from the trays and offer them to whoever they’re speaking to at the time- this will passively prompt guests to keep sanitizing constantly
No gifts is the New Normal: opt for a no gifts policy to minimize transmission through droplet/airborne particles- which can be easier said than done, but defining this in the invitation cards ahead of time can help advise guests accordingly
Disposables: choose disposable serve ware and cutleries (we know, we know, what will people say?) you’d be surprised though how fancy you can get with disposable options with a bit of creativity. Plus, if anyone can get away with it, it’s you. It’s a pandemic after all. From printing customized logos with your names and the menu to messages to your guests to vows you’re taking on that day, the choices are simply endless. There’s also any number of colored, printed, and fancy plastic options to play around with. Honestly better than most traditional ceramic options available in the market now.
No Gloves, no party: servers should we wearing gloves and masks at all times when handling food
It is possible to take low-cost measures to ensure maximum safety and precautions against COVID, enough to plan your dream wedding and other festivities.
